We left yesterday afternoon (ok technically day before yesterday). Leaving my family was awful. I was so sad I could hardly stand it. I cried and cried for a long time driving down the highway. Poor J was so excited to be on the road, finally on our adventure and I was bawling. I did settle down after a bit, thanks to a gas station attendant. He came over and was so chatty while he filled our tank up. He reminded me
of C - nice guy.
We only got in about a half day's driving - leaving at about 3pm and stopping about 9pm. We had hoped to stop and catch the season finallies of Sopranos and Big Love on HBO, but they weren't on! We stopped early for naught. Oh well, a short day was probably all I had in me due to the crying. On the way we did make one stop that first day in Scranton, PA to take a picture of the "Scranton Welcomes You" sign from our car window (we're such geeks)!
Today we awoke in Wilkes-Barre (pronounced Barry) in PA. We had to drive forever just to find a coffee place. Not even for a fancy coffee just any coffee joint at all - weird place!
Our next stop was Hershey, PA. Yes, Belmont family, chocolate (sorry little girl, chocolate was the name of the game here) is on the way to you. Guess what kind - Dark Chocolate. Mmmmm... Hopefully I won't eat it before I send it to you.
After Hershey we stopped somewhere in Virginia at the Crystal Caverns at Hupp's Hill. This was a great tour of some caves. The woman was very knowledgeable about both the geology and history of the caves. Hupp's Hill was used throughout the Civil War by Confederate soldiers and there are trenches all along the hill there - very sad to see. Our guide also told us that the caverns were used by soldiers as well both for hiding and as a hospital for a time. There are charcoal letters in the cave to suggest this but they are very faded from the water table rising during wet weather and wearing away these markings left
by the soldiers.
R, I kept thinking of you in Virginia. There were poppy fields by the side of the road on and off all the way through the state. They were so pretty and bright!
OK, thats pretty much it for now. Tonight we are in Knowville, Tennessee. Tomorrow we see Memphis!!
Goodnight!
Have you been fixed? (back on the road?)

We cried too! But dark chocolate couldn't hurt to make things better!
The kitties are fine, both have checked in.
Were there crystals in the crystal caverns? Have fun in Memphis!
